Unfortunately due to the Covid 19 virus we have postponed this event until further notice. We can hopefully rearrange for later in the year when the museum is open again.

Join us on an exploration of this very iconic garment!

Meeting at Hitchin railway station we will be travelling to the Victoria and Albert museum to see the Kimono to Catwalk exhibition. This exhibition will present the kimono as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion, revealing the sartorial, aesthetic and social significance of the garment from the 1660s to the present day, both in Japan and the rest of the world. We will have time to view the exhibits and gain inspiration for our upcoming “Make a Spring Robe” workshop.

Following this we will lunch in The Garden Cafe, the world’s oldest museum restaurant. This beautiful room was designed by William Morris and Edward Poynter and has amazing Victorian decor. The food is equally as delicious with lots of different choices available to cater for everyone’s dietary requirements.

After lunch we will head over to Shaukat Fabrics on Old Brompton Road. An “Ali Babas Cave” of fabric with surprise trunks of ribbons around every corner. The shop was established in 1976 and is legendary for its love of Eastern fabrics. It offers a wide selection including Liberty cottons and designer printed silks. We can shop till we drop and choose some fabulous fabric to take home to make our very own Kimono inspired robe!

The price includes the cost of the entrance to the museum only. All other expenses such as travel, lunch and fabric will be paid for by yourself on the day.

The ultimate Mother’s Day gift! What’s not to like!
