Make A Classic Women’s Shirt

Have you ever considered making a shirt but are daunted by the thought?  We would love you to join this Sew- Along and let us hold your hand through a range of classic shirt construction techniques. The beauty of doing a live Sew-Along is you get to ask questions as we go, plus we are here for you if things don’t go quite to plan. We will be using The Archer Shirt by Grainline Studio as our base pattern. This is a well drafted thought through pattern with lots of details and techniques to get our teeth into.

The Archer Button Up is a loosely fitted button up shirt with long sleeves. View A has angled cuffs and a back pleat at yoke. View B has straight cuffs and a gathered lower back detail.

We have selected fabrics from our collection so that we are all sewing with fabrics that we are familiar with and are therefore able to troubleshoot any problems that any students encounter.

The Sew-Along  runs over a series of 7 weeks with one 2hr class every week allowing you enough time to digest each stage in between classes and maybe make another one alongside.

Size: US 0-18

Sewing level: Intermediate

Course Kit

We have selected a range of fabrics and haberdashery which we would recommend for this workshop. For inspiration and to see other makers versions of this shirt please check out #grainlinearcher #archerbuttonup on instagram. Please find below a list of all the items that are included in your workshop price.

Fabric

We will all work with a similar weight of fabric in order to make sure we are all working under the same conditions to help with troubleshooting. We have selected a range of beautiful poplin fabrics from our collection with perfect structure and drape. Available in various colours/designs for you to select from. All kits will include 2.2m of fabric which is enough to make any size and allows enough for any shrinkage in the prewash.

  • 1x 100m  Gutermann rPET sew all thread in a matching colour (we will select the matching thread for your fabric)
  • 1 x pack Prym needles (suitable for your chosen fabric)
  • 10 x 15mm Buttons
  • Fusible interfacing

Optional items which can be ordered separately via the links below. We strongly recommend that you have a Tailors Ham, Seam roll, Tailors clapper, Buttonhole Cutter, Fray Check and Point Turner to get the best results during construction. Links to these products and others you may find useful are below.
