Course Description
For this year’s coat course we have chosen this gorgeous Anni Blazer pattern by Dragonfly Patterns
A lovely all-year-round staple. This easy jacket is semi-fitted, unlined, with trimmed-back raw seams on the outside, a front shaped hemline, one button closure and with two sleeve options: cuff trimmed-back raw seams or all-in-one turned up sleeves.
What skills will I learn?
How to work with boiled wool, including the following techniques
- Steaming
- Easing seams
- Seam grading
- Stay stitching
- Stabilising with stay tape
- Working with a walking foot
- How to make a collar with collar stand
- Mock fell seams
- Sleeve insertion
- Covered buttons
What’s included in the price of the course?
This full day course will include:
- A paper copy of the pattern with full instructions
- Full days tuition covering the techniques specified above
- Free flowing hot drinks throughout the day
- Hire of a spacious COVID approved venue with free parking outside
You will need to bring with you
- 1.20m or 1.40m (depending on your choice if view A or B) 140cm wide boiled wool ( N.B Your fabric MUST be boiled wool)
- Thread to match your chosen fabric
- Cotton stay tape
- Small scrap of medium weight fusible interfacing
- 1 x medium to large button
- Ballpoint needle for your machine
To make this experience as easy as possible for you we have put together an optional course kit (see below) We have also sourced some fabulous peacock blue boiled wool similar to the one shown on the pattern. Please order you kit using the drop down menus above and it will be added to the total price of the course.
Due to our new COVID rules you will also need to bring will you
- Your own sewing machine and it’s accessories especially the buttonhole foot and a walking foot if you have one.
- Your own packed lunch
- Your own mug

Fabric
There are 2 view options for the Anni Blazer.
View A requires 1.4m and View B requires 1.2m of fabric. Please select from the dropdown menu the quantity of fabric you would like to purchase with your kit.

Skill level – Beginner/Improver
This course is suitable for those who have used a sewing machine before, can confidently thread the machine and bobbin, and have completed at least one simple sewing project. Note: If you are new to sewing, it is advisable that you join our beginners machine course before enrolling on this course. Places are limited to 5 due to COVID regulations so prompt booking is advisable.
