How will it work?

The class will take place in a ‘virtual classroom’ using the video meeting software Zoom. You will need to have Zoom installed on the device you intend to use for the class, it’s free and easy to use. If you haven’t used Zoom before we suggest you have a practice before the class. Please download the free version via this link https://zoom.us/meetings

  • We also suggest choosing a quiet area to set up your machine next to your device. To achieve the best internet connection please reduce as many items as you can that are connected to your router.
  • On the morning of the class we will email you a link that will take you directly to the class. All you need to do is click on the link just before we are due to start. We suggest signing in 10 mins before the start time, you will be held in a virtual waiting room.
  • We encourage you to turn on your own video and audio so we can interact, and you can ask us questions – the idea is that it’s as much like an in-person class as possible!

What you will need on the day

  • Sewing machine fitted with a size 90 needle and threaded with your choice of Gutermann Sew – All thread colour.
  • Access to an iron and ironing board to press the lining fabric. You will not be able to press the oilskin instead you can finger press or flatten with a blunt instrument such as a point turner or ruler.
  • Your usual sewing haberdashery including all the basics plus these items
  1. Punch pliers to make holes in the leather
  2. Tailors awl or something to makes puncture holes e.g. skewer, bradawl
  3. Fabric clips to use on oilcloth as pins will leave holes
  4. Chalk wheel or tailors chalk to mark fabric or something that will brush off

All of these items including 90 needles can be purchased from our website in advance and I will add them to your kit for collection or postage. Please see linked products below.
