Kalle Shirt Dress – Closet Case Patterns
Review by Harriet @totallypinnable
I LOVE Closet Case patterns, they have fantastic instructions with clear easy to follow steps, and luckily fit me right out of the packet! I’ve made 6 of these now! I’ve made the Kelly Anorak, and also have the Sienna Maker Jacket in my to-sew pile. But the pattern I’ve made the most has to be the Kalle Shirt Dress. The construction really appeals to me, with the ‘burrito method’ keeping the inside seams nice and neat, and I always use French seams to keep it looking professional, even though it’s only me that gets to see it! I’ve made it in light Liberty Cotton Lawn, right through to heavy denim which I bleached and frayed the edges. It’s a really versatile pattern that you can tweak or hack, and Closet Case even has a sleeve expansion pack with longer sleeve pieces. I love wearing the cropped version with high waisted shorts or jeans, and the longer length on it’s own in the summer. I’ve seen versions where creators have added frills, made it long length, straightened out the hem, added extra pockets etc. It can look very different depending on the fabric used, and the length. I really recommend this pattern.
I make a size: 6 The knee length version I can squeeze out of 2 metres of standard width fabric, with short sleeves. The cropped version I squeezed out of 1 metre of fabric, but I think I had to use a different fabric for the facings.
Here are my photos.
