The love of sewing and all things handmade is something that I have had from a very early age. Even as a small child, my favourite toy was Mum’s old button tin! I grew up in a very creative family. My three sisters and I would spend many happy hours making clothes for our dolls, creating costumes and putting on shows for our parents. My grandmother was a seamstress and a milliner. When I was five, she taught me how to use a sewing machine, a simple hand-powered Singer, which I still use today and features in my logo.
My love of dressmaking grew and I made clothes for myself, wedding dresses for friends and a christening gown for my godson. Years later, having trained as a lecturer, travelled the world and had two children of my own, I am still happiest when I am making or crafting something!
In the last 15 years, I have been involved in teaching garment making techniques and recently I have trained in pattern cutting. I am passionate about passing on the skills of tailoring. Sewing is wonderful in so many ways – building confidence, making new friends and benefiting our mental wellbeing.
My reputation has grown and so has my space. I now teach on average 40 people per week from a local community centre. I would love you to join me on my mission to bring back creative life skills such as sewing.
Hope to meet you soon.
