Designing With Your Block – Dart Rotation

Day – Wednesday Evening

Dates – April 17th and 24th 2024

Dart control is the principle by which we create structure to all fitted or semi fitted garments. During this course we learn how to manipulate the dart to give shape to a bodice block and also how to design with it. Using your personal block we will produce a pattern for a basic shell top with a bust dart.

We will teach, demonstrate and help you understand the principles of dart rotation on your bodice block.

• Discuss the principles of shaping with a dart.
• Understand the dart pinwheel. Examine how and where darts can be located to produce shape.
• Understanding the principles of slash and spread to move a dart.
• Create a pattern for a simple shell top using the principles we have learned.
• Create design ideas for further patterns to try.

• 2 x 2hrs of tuition where you will work in a small group

• Your bodice block
• Note pad
• Eraser
• Long ruler
• Curved ruler
• Paper scissors
• 1m of calico
• Sewing machine
